The MOBIL-ized Librarian – benefits of equipping employees with mobile devices
Abstract
In today's literature on the activities of libraries, much attention is devoted to mobile technologies, but usually, this is done in the context of services provided to the reader, related to information, training and sharing resources. The mobile device ‘boom’ has prompted libraries to adapt software and content to be more accessible on mobile devices used by a modern reader. The standard is, therefore, responsive library sites and catalogs, electronic resources adapted for viewing them on smartphones and tablets or enjoying the ever-increasing popularity of QR codes. However, relatively little attention is devoted to mobile devices, which are treated as inexpensive tools, that can support various activities performed by library employees. This paper aims to show the potential benefits and uses of mobile devices in the daily work of librarians.
