The place and role of the academic library in the structure of a university – current status and future prospects
Abstract
The enactment of the 2018 Law on Higher Education and Science, known as Act 2.0, introduced numerous changes in the functioning, organization and structure of universities. The Act also applies to academic libraries operating within Polish universities. This article aims to describe and discuss the role of the modern academic library as a unit of the university. Changes in the functioning and organization of university libraries will also be discussed. This article will also pose questions concerning the future of these libraries, the place they should occupy in the university hierarchy, and the degree of independence they should enjoy.
