Poland’s first open library research data – from theory to practice

Authors

Abstract

Polish medical libraries jointly implement the project called Polish Medical Platform – a portal for knowledge and research potential management (PPM). The partners of the enterprise will be soon required to provide university staff with appropriate substantive support while depositing publications and research data in PPM repositories. Last year extensive surveys were conducted among researchers on their attitudes and beliefs regarding open research data. The aim of the questionnaire was to identify the needs of scientific staff for the practical application and use of the data. The obtained results were made available by the Main Library of Medical University of Gdańsk according to the latest scientific trends. The paper will discuss the practical aspects of research data management, from the creation of the Data Management Plan (DMP) to the technical preparation of the results to be made available, the selection of the appropriate licence and the final deposit in the repository with the publication on an OA basis. The opening of the results of research carried out by librarians is an example of practical use of knowledge. It also allows to gain experience that will pay off during the planned training of researchers, and at the same time – in a positive and legible way – is a promotion of open science.
